Chicago PD season 7 character preview: Adam Ruzek

What will happen

While Ruzek is featured in season 7’s promotional art, he isn’t as prominent in more recent trailers as Voight or Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). So does that mean he’ll have a reduced role in the season, or be missing in action for a few episodes like when he was on that undercover operation? It’s not clear yet.

But Adam’s stint in jail provides the perfect opportunity to explore how the incarceration affects him. While we have always seen Ruzek has a strong exterior, it would be refreshing to see him break down a little and show some more vulnerability. There’s no doubt that all the Chicago PD characters are tough, which makes it all the more interesting when they’re not.

Before his arrest, Ruzek was seemingly next in line to be Voight’s right hand man, filling the role that was previously inhabited by Olinsky. He’s already proved that he takes the “team before self” edict to heart, and he has a similar intensity to Voight in interrogations. The latter was put on display in “Reckoning” when he assisted in the unconventional questioning of a suspect with a connection to Kelton. So will Ruzek become now what Olinsky was for so many years?

Whether or not he returns to that same place, or his regular spot in Intelligence, or even gets promoted, one thing’s for sure: Adam Ruzek isn’t going down without a fight. Here’s hoping that he comes out the other side relatively unscathed when Chicago PD season 7 premieres on Sept. 25.
