Chicago PD season 7 spoilers: Antonio’s exit plans explained
How is Antonio leaving Chicago PD? Find out how producers plan on writing out Antonio Dawson in new Chicago PD season 7 spoilers.
What happened to Antonio on Chicago PD? Fans don’t have to wait until the season finale to know how the series is planning to say goodbye to its most popular character.
When he was last seen, Antonio (Jon Seda) was relapsing on painkillers after Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) took the fall for him. That cliffhanger came a month after the news broke that Seda was released from the show and wouldn’t be returning this season.
So how are the writers going to explain his character’s absence? Showrunner Rick Eid revealed the exit story to TVLine, giving viewers their first concrete idea of what happens next, but there’s also a critical piece of information he didn’t say.

Eid let slip that next month’s season premiere opens with Antonio’s fate still vague. Antonio will have gone missing, and the rest of the Intelligence Unit “will ultimately figure out what’s going on with him,” suggesting that the premiere involves looking for him—and getting an answer as to where he’s gone.
Of course, Eid is known for not giving out too many specifics in his spoilers, and he didn’t say what Antonio’s ultimate fate is. But what he did mention tells us how the producers plan to handle things, and we can start to put the pieces together based on that.
Remember that as far as is known, Jon Seda was not asked to reprise his role as Antonio in the season 7 premiere. That limits the options for whatever Intelligence finds out, because obviously he won’t be seen on screen; he can only be referenced.

So fans shouldn’t expect Antonio to get to say his goodbyes. The two options that can be done without Jon Seda are either the character has taken off out of Chicago, or he’s going to be found dead. Either way, it doesn’t sound like Chicago PD fans are going to be happy with his ending.
We’ll have to reserve final judgment until Chicago PD season 7 premieres, since Rick Eid was careful to not say anything specific in his comments. But after a sixth season that saw Antonio turn into a drug addict, having him missing feels like just continuing the character’s downward spiral.
