In this article, we’re profiling Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson).

Where we left off

Sharon Goodwin has never been one of Chicago Med‘s most prominent characters, since she runs the hospital. That means she’s in a supervisory role, which in turn makes her more of a supporting character. But even by that standard, Goodwin had a very quiet season last time out.

She did get one feature episode, and that included possibly one of her best moments in the entire series to date. When the hospital was dealing with a gun-toting young man, unhinged at the fact that he wasn’t going to be part of his newborn baby’s life, it was Goodwin who ultimately finished the situation. She was the hero, putting herself between the gun and everybody else, and she was totally awesome.

That made it kind of frustrating that she didn’t have much to do the rest of the season except for the usual administrative hand-wringing. We saw a lighter side to her, somewhat, when she was the supportive friend for Caroline Charles (recurring guest star Paula Newsome) after Caroline was brought to Chicago Med. But otherwise, the fourth season wasn’t huge for Goodwin, so what may be next for her?
