Chicago Fire season 8 character preview: Stella Kidd

What will happen

Expect more Stellaride cuteness when Chicago Fire returns. Every time a One Chicago couple gets together, or gets back together, there’s a “honeymoon period” for the writers where they bask in that a bit. Even though Stella and Severide have been together before, there will probably be a period of time where they’re having adorable romantic scenes that may or may not have anything to do with the rest of the episode.

Last season featured a big shift for Stella, because of the departure of Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund). With Dawson’s exit, and the subsequent end of Dawsey, Stella became the show’s new female lead and Stellaride became the primary ship. We saw that in how numerous episodes put her in the position to be the hero. Expect more of that, too, because she’s moved front and center and the writers will want her to continue to look good.

She might still stumble during an episode or two, but she’s going to continue to be prominent and continue to be generally successful. If there’s going to be any headache for Stella Kidd, it might be in the form of another random speed bump between her and Severide, because the general belief is that happy couples don’t make for interesting TV.

But with the writers already having gone over so many variations of that (her getting hospitalized, his ex returning, a rival for her attention), they will have to tread carefully to avoid feeling like they are repeating themselves. Expect bigger and better things for Stella, possibly with a bit of drama for the sake of drama.
