What will happen

Chicago Fire seems to have lined up everything perfectly for Severide, but expect a “but” here, because the prevailing idea is that happy characters don’t make for good TV. Especially not if that character is Kelly Severide, whom the writers have enjoyed throwing all kinds of curveballs at in the last seven seasons.

Though Severide and Stella are great right now, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if something else came to rain on their parade. The question is what, because the show has done that a lot before (his ex-girlfriend has returned, someone else has hit on her, he’s gone off with another girl). The writers wouldn’t seem to have a lot of options left to complicate their romance, but they probably won’t let them be sunshine and rainbows all season long.

There’s also the idea of where Severide is going to go professionally. Fans have learned that he has no interest in moving up the ranks, unless it’s the right opportunity (like when he thought of moving to Springfield to be with Anna Turner). He did seem a bit jealous when Casey was first promoted. With his personal life seemingly sorted out, the one place to start this season would logically be his future at Firehouse 51.

Is he still content to just be a Lieutenant? Or will he want to change things up eventually? Could he have to make some tough decisions about Squad? There are all kinds of options for him, and the show should probably start there.
