What will happen

There’s no arguing the fact that Herrmann is in the closest proximity to the thing that’s about to make a big boom. So he has to be considered at serious risk, even though we’d also like to think he’s too valuable to get rid of. We’re cautiously optimistic that he’ll survive, though we’d still put him in our Top 5 of potential victims purely because of where we left him.

Assuming that he comes back, he’s going to be yelling at somebody. That’s what Herrmann does best, and as we mentioned on the previous slide, there’s at least one person that he’ll want to be having words with.

As a Lieutenant he now has an even greater responsibility to make sure that everyone’s safe and not taking unnecessary risks, and a fire that big has the potential to cause all kinds of harm—even in the aftermath. He could find himself having to make tough choices just to get survivors out of the building or treat people hurt in the blast.

Beyond that, the writers have tossed us a subplot involving Herrmann’s family each of the last two seasons, so we’d expect something more in that arena as well. It’s always good to see more of Cindy Herrmann (recurring guest star Robyn Coffin), and well, Christopher’s parenting skills are about as good as his administrative ones. Look for at least a little more home time, and maybe he’ll mellow out. But not too much, because this is Herrmann.
