In this article, we’re profiling Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
Where we left off
Will Halstead was last season’s winner of the “worst season for a One Chicago character” award. Chicago Med put him through multiple traumas, including things that he shouldn’t have ever had to deal with—and by the end of the season, he had nothing to show for it.
He had to deal with the loss of his father (recurring guest star Louis Herthum) almost right off the top, and then was dragged into an operation where he was essentially strong-armed into working for the FBI. Will spent half the season as a confidential informant, which culminated in him almost being shot, except for some last-second intervention from brother Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer).
After all that, his reward was having to abandon his wedding and be placed in witness protection in Arizona. Though Will came back to Chicago eventually, Natalie wasn’t the same when he came back; she eventually returned his engagement ring and pretty quickly took up with her new love interest, Phillip Davis (recurring guest star Ian Harding).
So though Will wants nothing more than to marry Natalie and be a good doctor, he’s lost his dad, his fiancee, and the season ended with another attempt on his life that injured Natalie. Will can’t catch a break, and that needs to change immediately.
