Chicago PD season 7 character preview: Kim Burgess
By Kari Highman
What will happen
With the ambiguity of her professional and personal life, there’s some space for Kim Burgess’s character to grow in Chicago PD season 7. It’s tough to say what exactly the writers are planning to do with her character. With how Antonio is being written out, where will her primary focus be? Will she worry about her former partner or the investigation?
Plus, with her ex-fiancé’s fate also hanging in the balance, Burgess may experience a whole slew of emotions while dealing with that uncertainty. Hopefully these major changes won’t cause her to doubt herself or otherwise regress to the less secure woman she was in earlier seasons. Kim has come so far since her promotion to Intelligence, and Marina Squerciati has done a great job in building her up particularly over the last few seasons.

But Burgess went through her fair share of personal trauma last season, between finding out about Ruzek and Upton to the death of Blair, and being abducted. She might have to still be picking up the pieces, and with Upton getting a larger part of the spotlight, where Burgess fits in may change as well. It all comes down to how the show handles Antonio’s situation and reshuffles the team because of that, both in terms of the characters themselves and how the series chooses to write them.
Hopefully Burgess’s resourcefulness and resilience will continue to be showcased in Chicago PD season 7. Whether the writers decide to do that by a possible promotion to Detective or some other means. But it may take a while for her to reach the heights she ultimately deserves.
