Natalie’s first day back

After four weeks of being out of the loop, Natalie went back to work. She was first seen running in from the rain, and was then approached by her superior, Dr. Anderson, who told her to do a “half day.” She tried to object, but he got his point across when he essentially pushed her out of the room when a gunshot victim rolled into the hospital.

Natalie was then shown griping to Maggie about being “on transpo” aka: transporting the patient up to surgery. As she was riding up the elevator with the patient, the power outage stopped them in their tracks. Luckily, it wasn’t long before Chicago Fire‘s Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) found them and offered to help out in any way he could.

It was Natalie who ultimately needed the help, even though she didn’t admit it at first. She told Matt that she could do the bagging, the intubation, etc., but her efforts failed. This left her feeling frustrated and left Casey to pick up the pieces. He successfully intubated the gunshot victim, but he was still needing blood to flow to his heart and brain or he wouldn’t make it.

The two worked together in the end as Matt monitored the patient while Natalie cut open his chest to get as much blood going in the right direction as possible.

Her professional skills were put to the test, as was her patience within her personal life. See, Will awkwardly made conversation with her, and the two started off discussing Connor Rhodes’ (Colin Donnell) departure and Ava Bekker’s (Norma Kuhling) death.

As if that wasn’t odd enough, after she was due to go home for the day, Will confronted her about Phillip. He claimed that he felt like she was coming to tell him something different that day in the car – not that she was engaged to Phillip. Natalie stood dumbfounded for a moment, but as Will spurred on, asking her if she really loved Phillip, she found her voice again.

She told Will that her relationship with Phillip wasn’t his business; but what she failed to say was an answer to his question. This of course left fans wondering: is there still hope for Manstead after all?
