The killer is found

So Upton and Rojas go to question the victim, which Rojas kind of screws up too by asking if she’s a “legit waitress.” Ruby is understandably offended, but she warms up a bit when Rojas says she’s asking because they’re from the same neighborhood. The rest of the team quickly find a suspect and haul him into the interrogation room, where Upton gets to sit in on that, too. Felix claims they were “picking up” that specific car on someone else’s orders.

Atwater and Ruzek find said car, which is still smoldering from having been on fire. Atwater finds a hidden compartment in the vehicle; Ruby was hiding heroin in her BMW. Halstead and his new partner Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) go to bring her in for questioning, but discover her bloody and unconscious from a very recent attack. She’s confirmed dead after the commercial break.

Burgess discovers that there’s no record of Ruby working at the restaurant she’d said she was employed by. That leads the restaurant’s owner Alexa (Lisa Vidal, Code Black, Strong Medicine) to admit she hires waitresses off book. But why does Ruby’s GPS show her going to one specific bar more than once? And why does Ruby’s corpse have an F-scaped scar on her shoulder?

The first part is easy: that’s where the heroin is coming from. It’s no surprise that Voight has everyone, except Rojas, go in to raid the place. After her flub at the start of the episode, Vanessa is left outside to do sentry duty. Yet when one of the drug dealers goes running, she ends up right in the middle of the action anyway. This leads to the guy who ordered the carjacking, but Jose isn’t the person who murdered Ruby.

Intelligence takes the number Jose used to contact his buyer and uses it to track down the person who purchased said phone. It’s Alexa! But Chicago PD fans probably already knew there was something shady going on with her.
