Hostage situation

Our team does a deep dive, explaining that Alexa used to be a social worker and that’s how she met Ruby. Voight decides to use Rojas to fill Ruby’s spot on Alexa’s drug crew, and she quickly goes off script. She asks Ruzek to start a fight with her, which gets them both kicked out of the restaurant. She already thinks she knows Alexa’s type, and that it’s women who look vulnerable.

Chicago PD quickly makes it clear that Rojas is right, and she makes a second attempt at charming Alexa, this time with a black eye and promises of making a deal that will help her get out of town. Alexa takes the bait, but sends someone else to pick up the drugs—Ruby’s roommate Karla. Rojas refuses to hand over the merchandise to anyone else, which blows the deal a second time.

Needing to move to Plan C, Voight has the rest of the team kidnap Karla and throw her into a van. Well, no one has ever said Hank Voight was subtle.

Voight attempts to turn Karla by playing on her loyalty to Ruby. He adds that Jose has identified her from a photo array, so she’s on the hook for drug trafficking but he can make that go away if she informs on Karla for him. When Karla clams up, Rojas steps into the limelight again as she talks about Karla’s other friend who was murdered; the team just found the Homicide case file.

Karla agrees to wear a wire and confronts Alexa about both dead girls. But she’s not very good at this, and Alexa is soon threatening Karla with the same murder weapon. The team rushes in to save her, but Alexa locks them both inside a storage cage, going on an indignant rant about how unappreciated she is while Voight pretends to be sympathetic. He gets Alexa to put the knife down, but then an angry Karla grabs it and stabs her former mentor, killing her instantly.

So what’s Intelligence to do? Voight either buries or destroys the surveillance video from the scene, closing the case. He also gets Upton’s opinion of Rojas: “You live by your instincts, eventually you die by them.” But that isn’t enough for her to disapprove. She sits down with Rojas and tells her how she’ll have to learn to do things differently, but Voight has approved her transfer.

She also has figured out that Rojas is homeless, since she lost her undercover apartment when she moved from the gig, so Upton offers to be her roommate. And now Chicago PD fans know what their storyline is going to be, as well as what Lisseth Chavez’s status on this show is.
