Chicago Med season 5, episode 4 photos: Infection, Part 2

This week’s Chicago Med is the second part of the One Chicago crossover, and NBC has released a slew of photos from the episode as a result.

Wednesday’s installment is titled “Infection, Part 2” as Med moves into the time slot normally for Chicago Fire in order to continue the three-show, three-hour story. (Fire moves up an hour and is the first part of the event, just like last season.)

Since this is the second part, the Chicago Med photos this week are certainly going to be exciting for One Chicago fans. The crossover is in full swing by hour two, and as such, characters from the other two series pop up throughout the image gallery.

There’s particularly a strong presence for Chicago PD, as the crossover trailer revealed that one of that show’s main characters has a medical predicament. (That character is also clearly identified in the photos, so if you haven’t seen the trailer and don’t want to know who it is, stop looking now. That person appears in multiple promo pictures.)

Plus, newcomer Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) continues to get a significant amount of screen time; this time it’s just with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). It seems like everyone has a part to play, which is exactly what fans want in a crossover. Will Rojas have learned from her rookie mistakes, or will Med‘s doctors also have to reel her in?

The other interesting thing is the significant presence of Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) in these photos. How much can a psychiatric expert help with a flesh-eating bacteria? Is he on hand to try and do some sort of psych profile of the person who unleashed it?

Or does Dr. Charles take on a different role, maybe more of a leadership one, because it’s all hands on deck given how big of a crisis this is? You wouldn’t expect to see this much of him with this storyline, so we’ll have to find out how the episode utilizes him. Especially since there are so many other characters going in and out, all of whom have to be fit into 42 minutes of story.

It seems like Charles is one of the characters focusing on the bigger picture of how and why this epidemic is happening, while Choi and the surgeons are the people who are actually in the hospital and out in the field trying to treat patients and deal with the medicine. That’s no surprise, as it’s how things usually work around here.

Since this is a medical type of story, that makes us hopeful Med will have a larger part to play in this crossover; it tends to be the least utilized show a lot of the time, and sometimes is skipped altogether. But this time it’s absolutely necessary. Cops and firefighters certainly can’t treat an infection like this. Even Ambulance 61 would be out of its league! So it’s time for our doctors and nurses to come to the rescue.
