Chicago PD concluded the One Chicago crossover in Infection, Part 3. Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 7, episode 4 recap.

This week’s Chicago PD served as the final part of the latest One Chicago crossover, and no one can argue that it didn’t end the “Infection” storyline on a dramatic note.

The third chapter of “Infection” begins with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) chasing the evil doctor through Chicago Med, while the rest of the hospital is alerted that there’s an “active security threat.” But Dr. Seldon has already gotten in his car and left. Again, yay for sub-par hospital security.

Voight returns to the district, where Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) tells him that two of the quarantined patients are still at large too, and about the riot that Firehouse 51 just broke up. She rallies all of the uniformed officers to look for Seldon, who may have gotten on a train. Or he may not. But not only do they not know where he is, they don’t know why he’s doing this.

Cue Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) with the exposition: the guy’s personal life fell apart a few months ago. Did it cause him to snap? The team looks for Seldon’s ex-wife, but a ping on his cell phone reveals that he got to her first. Upstead find an emergency bunker in her basement and blood on the door, but it takes Jay a second to realize they can’t get in. You didn’t notice the keypad on the door, dude?

Halstead calls in Chicago Fire‘s Kelly Severide and Joe Cruz (Taylor Kinney and Joe Minoso) to bust the bunker door open. The ex-Mrs. Seldon is in there, but she’s shooting at literally everything. Her former husband has indeed visited and he locked her in the bunker, so she’s freaked out. In true Voight fashion, he tells his team to “make her talk.” Does he only know one way of interviewing people?

The truth comes out

Back at Chicago Med, the doctors rush to salvage what was left of their research and find a cure. And Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) almost loses Amanda during surgery when she goes into shock, but is able to stabilize her. She’s in critical condition. And he’s so busy dealing with paranoid people who are fine, that he forgets about her. He rushes in just in time to see Amanda crashing again, but Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) is there to find her pulse.

Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) interrogates Seldon’s ex-wife, who insists that neither she nor her husband are crazy. They’re just spending too much time thinking about all the ways the human race could be wiped out. They must have had some terrible dinner conversation. Voight threatens her and that’s when she reveals that her ex said “that he wasn’t done yet.” She gives up a list of everything he took from the home, presumably for his final attack.

Chicago PD has the rest of the team spell out everything to this point for any viewers who can’t keep up: Seldon infected research assistant Stuart Anderson on purpose to use him as Patient Zero, then pretended to be clueless so he could get involved with Chicago Med and sabotage their attempts to stop him.

Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) finds a similar truck to the one Seldon stole from his ex-wife’s house, but the only thing that happens there is an overzealous uniform shooting at an innocent man. Seldon is gaming everybody.

How does Intelligence tell the false leads from the real ones? Enlist Trudy, of course! We need more Trudy. And we need more Trudy with Mouch (Christian Stolte), who pops by just to see that his wife is okay. Awww.

A sharp conclusion

Voight decides not to engage with Seldon’s game-playing. When Halstead believes he’s found a location where Seldon is holed up, he brings a small army to arrest him. The place is empty, but has the ultimate bad guy cliche: he’s spelled out his plans on the wall.

It’s no surprise that they involve that Oktoberfest parade that was mentioned near the start of Chicago Fire. But everyone’s so paranoid that nobody came to the parade; it’s just empty city blocks. So what will Seldon do? Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) thinks he’ll find another target.

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek have constructed a timeline of the last six months in Seldon’s life, and Rojas (again) has a big tip: he lost much of his research funding, and the people responsible were BRT Health Industries—the same people who oversaw the university lab that was set on fire.

Burgess realizes Seldon was trying to prove that he’d found a disease that could kill the planet, and his way of proving it was to unleash it. His final target? BRT’s headquarters.

Everyone races there, as Will and the team at Chicago Med believe they’ve found a cure for the virus. They pull out all the stops to get it manufactured while Intelligence realizes that they’re a few minutes too late. A dead body falls out of the building. Seldon is on the sixth floor and he’s got hostages.

Leave it to Halstead, who got shot during the last three-show One Chicago crossover, to face off with him. Seldon is in a conference room with the hostages, several of whom he’s infected with the disease. It’s either that or he shoots them, which is a morbid catch-22. Jay tries to keep everyone calm, while pretty much the entire rest of the One Chicago universe arrives on the scene.

Jay buys time by offering himself up as Seldon’s next victim, even going so far as to cut himself so he can be exposed to the virus. But just before he’s supposed to infect himself, there’s Upton with her sniper rifle, creating a distraction that allows the rest of the team to enter the room. Voight shoots Seldon dead, while Will treats his brother and everyone else. Crisis averted.

Everyone finally gets to go home, and Chicago PD ends with the Burzek scene that’s been teased for a week. Adam asks Kim if she wants to go home with him, and she agrees. He takes her hand as they walk off together. Hopefully that’s not another fake-out from the Chicago PD writers.

Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) wraps up the crossover with a narration as we see what happens to everyone else. Amanda is doing well and reunited with her grandmother, while Firehouse 51 has raised money for their favorite food truck owner to rebuild her restaurant. And the Halstead brothers are getting a drink together, as Chicago finally starts being a city again.
