Chicago Med season 5, episode 5 recap: Got A Friend In Me
Choi and Marcel
Choi shares a moment with Noah, who doesn’t like watching the PDA between his sister and her boyfriend. Noah tells Choi how intense his surgical residency is, just before Marcel turns up to take Noah away. Choi doesn’t seem convinced that Marcel is a good influence on Noah. Not with his tapeworm stories.
He moves on to treat a patient with severe intestinal issues that have been going on for some time now. But just as Choi is starting to treat Carl, Noah decides to snoop and tells Marcel that he should look at the case instead. Geez, Noah can be opportunistic, but what the heck, dude?
Carl throws up on Choi during his scan, which further proves he’s not okay. Cue Marcel, who swans in with Noah for an unwanted surgical consult. Choi hauls them both out to give them a piece of his mind, but once the MRI results come in, Marcel is happy to pop up and say he was right. The two may as well go out in the parking lot, fight each other, and get it over with.
Making matters worse: Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) tells the duo that Carl’s medical records from his old hospital are “being held hostage.” This just allows Choi and Marcel to argue in front of their boss and the hospital lawyer. Goodwin asks Carl what he wants; Carl’s in pain and desperate, so of course he votes for surgery, which means Marcel takes over the case. No, that wasn’t skewed at all.
Marcel successfully completes the surgery, which prompts Noah to tell Choi how he should be happy because they “won.” Choi is still skeptical, but apologizes to Noah, who says that between this and what he learned from Choi he should be very successful. The two hug it out.
