Maggie

Maggie is at home, and realizes that her hair has begun to fall out as a result of her chemotherapy treatments. She puts her wig (and a brave face) on before heading into Chicago Med, telling April that she’ll only be there until the afternoon – but not why. Needless to say, April is suspicious, and she’s not the only one.

But Maggie offers no explanation before she leaves for her next round of treatment. That’s where Caroline Charles (guest star Paula Newsome) stumbles upon her and finds out that she has breast cancer. Caroline tries to give Maggie some advice from her own recent battle, and Maggie debates answering a text message from April.

She ultimately decides against it, but meets the nurses outside the hospital after shift and takes the wig off, showing them what’s really going on with her. Wordlessly, they all support her.

Will

Will’s patient is a man with a swollen calf, which he believes is a blood clot. But the next time Chicago Med goes back to Neal, there’s more swelling and he’s also having trouble breathing. The clot has moved to his lungs in what has to be some kind of speed record.

Neal promptly crashes and dies, without ever being able to speak to his fiancee, who was looking at wedding dresses that day. She arrives just after they wheel his corpse out of the ED and Will has to break the bad news. Thanks for depressing us, Chicago Med!

Charles

This week’s psych case for Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) is a woman brought in by the cops, who’s been arguing with herself for two days. Eunice is rattling off terms like she’s been cramming too hard for a law exam. Once she’s calmed down, she tells Charles she knows she wasn’t herself.

But what caused her freakout? Charles tells her that she was having a manic episode and may be bipolar. She doesn’t want that, because she’s determined to make partner at her law firm and has hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans to pay off. Priorities!

Eunice insists on being discharged, but doesn’t actually leave the hospital. When she can’t even get out the front door, she knows he’s right and agrees to be admitted. We don’t get to see what happens for Eunice after that, but we do find out that Caroline invited Sharon’s ex-husband Bert to dinner. She’s convinced Sharon and Bert can reconcile.

But as Charles points out vehemently, she didn’t tell Sharon. When she sees her ex-husband, she gives him a frosty reception. At least she doesn’t throw a wine bottle at his head.
