Will and Charles

Speaking of more of the same, Charles’ first scene is finding out his wife Caroline (returning guest star Paula Newsome) got them swanky dinner reservations—by telling the restaurant she’s dying. Um, okay. That’s not manipulative at all.

But then Tom is wheeled into the Emergency Department after he collapsed in a stairwell. He swears he’s fine, but then almost throws up on Will, twice. Oh, and he has fangs. Like, full-on vampire fangs. So who you gonna call? Not the Ghostbusters.

Will tells Tom that he’s got acute liver failure, but he and his girlfriend are more interested in leaving. Particularly the latter; she clearly wears the pants in the relationship. Will seeks out Charles, who doesn’t fare any better with the wannabe Twilight duo.

They run out of the hospital, but not before Tom literally bites Charles, and security hauls him back into the ED while his girlfriend leaves him hanging. It’s a good thing, too, as he really is allergic to sun. Not that it makes him any more willing to get help. He’s still convinced he’s Edward Cullen. “She’s essentially brainwashed him,” Charles tells Will, speaking for all of us.

But Charles pretends to be sympathetic, while also pointing out to Tom that his girlfriend ditched him without thinking twice. It’s not until she stops returning his texts and calls that Tom realizes he’s right, and finally consents to getting help. Will is easily able to diagnose him, and tells Charles to get tested, which one thinks he would have done right away. Apparently not.
