What should fans watch for in tonight’s Law and Order SVU? Get ready for Counselor, It’s Chinatown with our SVU season 21, episode 7 preview.

Tonight’s Law & Order: SVU is bringing more star power, as well as a major change to the Special Victims Unit.

“Counselor, It’s Chinatown” features a guest appearance by comedienne and actress Margaret Cho, whom viewers will recognize from The Masked Singer season 1; she was the Poodle. Her other credits include numerous comedies such as Dr. Ken and Drop Dead Diva.

There aren’t any official details on who Cho is portraying, but the Law & Order franchise is known for giving comedians a chance to play serious roles that go completely against their established persona.

Jonathan Silverman starred in one of SVU‘s most intense episodes in recent memory, “Comic Perversion,” and Stephen Colbert was the suspect in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, to name but two.

It’s possible Cho could be a victim, or she could be part of the task force that the detectives have to work with as they venture into Chinatown for their latest case. Either way, her performance is worth keeping an eye on.

The other big news for fans of the Dick Wolf series is in the squadroom. This is the first episode of SVU to air since it was announced that Jamie Gray Hyder (Graceland), who’s been recurring across several episodes, has been promoted to series regular.

Hyder’s character fills the void left behind by Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino), who himself was transferred to Assistant District Attorney, after the show opted not to bring back Peter Stone (Philip Winchester).

She is billed as a guest star in NBC‘s official description of this episode, but now that the news is official, see if perhaps the network has updated the opening credits already. There’s certainly no shortage of things happening in SVU season 21!
