Chicago PD gave Kim Burgess some unexpected news in No Regrets. Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 7, episode 8 recap.

This week’s Chicago PD was a feature episode for Kim Burgess, though not in a way some might have expected.

Wednesday’s episode “No Regrets” saw Burgess (Marina Squerciati) discover that she was pregnant, leading her to try and decide what she’d do with the baby and how she’d tell Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) that he was the father.

Meanwhile, the Intelligence Unit dealt with a child abduction case, which naturally only prompted Burgess to think more about her impending motherhood.

A body and a baby

A newly reunited Burgess and Ruzek are working together again, too, surveilling a truck while Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) are undercover. They’re pretending to buy heroin, and one of the dealers takes off running, leaving Burgess to get into a foot chase with him.

She cuts her arm squeezing through a gate, and then stops because there’s a body in the bushes outside. While Ruzek is able to stop the original suspect, it’s clear that they have bigger problems. The rest of Intelligence arrives, and they wonder if the victim was a prostitute dumped there. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) also orders Burgess to go to Chicago Med for proper treatment of her wound.

Unfortunately, that’s not all the visit deals with. The Emergency Department doctor on duty tells Burgess that she ran a blood test, which revealed Burgess is four weeks pregnant! She congratulates Kim, but Burgess does not look like she wants to be congratulated. She returns to work and acts like nothing happened.

Chicago PD reveals the victim is not a prostitute. She’s a teenager named Ally Larson who may have been kidnapped and then escaped. Burgess and Ruzek have the task of telling her parents that their daughter is dead; her mother thinks it was a stranger abduction. She tells a story about seeing Ally on a playground a year ago, next to a man she didn’t recognize.

Back at the district, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) has video footage of Ally’s body being dumped. She’s been able to recognize the guy as drug dealer Ramiro Lopez. The team goes to haul him in, but a car chase ensues and ends with Lopez T-boning a Kia. Rojas tackles him when he tries to flee, and he later tells Voight that he’s innocent; he had tried to help Ally, not dump her.

Lopez says the real killer was driving a blue Nissan SUV with a dent on the side. His story seems to be proven right because DNA results from Ally’s necklace have come back, not matching the killer, but another missing girl named Claire Meyers. Chicago PD has a serial abductor on their hands. Where are the detectives from Cold Case when you need them?

Upton finds that Claire’s family had a restraining order against her former piano teacher, who’s also just been accused of assault by a woman. Ruzek and Burgess are told to bring the man in. Waiting for him gives Burgess time to randomly announce to Ruzek that she’s pregnant with his baby. “Huh” is his reaction.

They ask each other what they want to do; she says she wants kids “someday” and he replies that he’ll support her. But then the perp arrives, so that talk has to be paused.
