The dilemmas deepen

The teacher gets the third degree from Voight and Upton, while maintaining his innocence. He says that Claire had tried to initiate a relationship with him, not the other way around, and he doesn’t know Ally at all. He also says there was someone else watching Claire, and gives them a vague description of a white dude with a panel van: basically the stereotypical child abductor. In response to him insisting he genuinely loved Claire, Upton shoves the table into his stomach.

But his alibi checks out too, and Burgess proves his story by finding an electrician who had worked at both girls’ homes prior to their abduction. From there, using Lopez’s details about the van, it’s easy to identify the killer as Ray Lambert. Time for another classic Chicago PD full-force assault! But Ray’s house has been cleaned out, except for the creepy room in his house with all the teddy bears.

In the basement, the team finds blood that leads to a makeshift room. That’s where Ray has been hiding Claire, who is stunned to see Burgess. She asks where her son Henry is; Ray has vanished with the kid. Where the heck is he?

Ruzek connects Ray to another electrician named Brad Snyder, who gets a surprise visit from the Chicago PD. But when a kid pops up in the front window just as they’re about to bust down the door, things take a weird turn. Atwater comforts Brad’s kid, while the rest of the team goes inside to find that Brad got jumped by Ray. Voight shoving him is only making matters worse.

He and Upton swear Brad must know everything about Ray, but Brad is a clear victim; his ATM card was stolen and his son’s life was threatened. While Voight glares at him, Burgess goes back to Chicago Med, this time finding out that Henry is diabetic. She asks Claire what happened to Ally; she affirms that Ray killed Ally, because Ally was hurting Henry as a way of getting back at Ray. Yes, this Chicago PD episode is going in weird circles.

In its final act, Chicago PD has footage of Ray using Brad’s ATM card, but no further idea of where he is. Voight has Ruzek pick up Burgess from the hospital, which again is an excuse for them to talk about their baby. She says she made “an appointment” for tomorrow morning, but not what kind of appointment, and the radio interrupts before he can ask. Ray has been located!
