Severide will return from OFI

Casey’s best friend and favorite (squad) lieutenant Kelly Severide has been detailed to OFI since last week’s “Seeing is Believing,” and Firehouse 51 just isn’t the same without him. Viewers saw Severide shine in his new role as an investigator, as he and new colleague Wendy Seager (Andy Allo) got to the truth of what was thought to be arson in the latest Chicago Fire.

The two worked tirelessly on a grocery store fire, only to find out it was caused by an electrical problem rather than deliberately set. They brought their findings to their boss Van Meter who, after much encouraging from the determined pair, finally let them run with it.

The end result allowed for the grocery store owner to collect the insurance money to rebuild, and the woman was so grateful that she hugged Kelly while thanking him. The positive ending solidified Seager’s instincts about recruiting Severide to OFI: he was in fact, a good fit for helping to clear their backlog of cases.

Despite his new detail, that didn’t stop Severide from being there for 51 when it counted. He joined the rest of the firehouse on a protest Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) hosted against the furniture company that manufactured the mattresses that killed Brian “Otis” Zvonechek (Yuri Sardarov), and were ignited in a recent apartment fire.

Since Kelly has made it a point to stick by 51 no matter what, it’s safe to say his detail to OFI won’t be a permanent one. He’ll return by the end of the Chicago Fire midseason finale. This is good news for fans of Stellaride, who probably longed for the couple’s usual onscreen interactions that were missing in last week’s episode.

And there’s more good news: Severide’s unwavering devotion to Stella. Stellaride fans can rest easy as Seager will be no threat to the couple; although she did ask Severide about the status of Matthew Casey…
