Voight’s alliances will hurt him

Hank Voight has always sworn to protect his unit, no matter what the cost may be. He’s proven that time and time again, especially during this season. The Chicago PD season 7 premiere showed him stepping up for former Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan (Anne Heche) until Halstead got ahead of himself and foiled Voight’s plan to let Brennan get her affairs in order.

His good deeds didn’t stop there, as Voight made a deal with new Superintendent Crawford to bring Darius Walker in as a CI, on one condition: he get Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) his badge back. Crawford begrudgingly obliged Voight’s ask, and Ruzek received his badge back, along with escaping any charges from the Internal Affairs investigation that had started during the previous season.

Voight and Crawford got into a confrontation over a technological setback in “False Positive” when the Superintendent was adamant that Intelligence trust the computer’s identification system, even though it dealt a suspect a death sentence based on his skin color. Crawford managed to save his own behind and we’re betting he won’t hesitate to do it again.

And Voight’s deal with Darius hasn’t had the best track record thus far either. Remember that in “Informant” when Detective Hailey Upton’s (Tracy Spiridakos) source was killed, Darius was the number one suspect, and likely the one who ordered the hit. This put a great deal of strain on Voight and Darius’ relationship and Voight has never known if he can truly trust him.

One or both of these characters will cause a problem in the Chicago PD midseason finale, whether directly or indirectly. Will either one resurface to throw a wrench in the search for Halstead and the people who took him? Or will a development from a past episode, or a general mistrust, just make everyone’s life harder now? Whatever form it takes, there’ll be a problem.
