Chicago PD’s midseason finale Absolution saw Jay Halstead abducted. Find out what happened in our Chicago PD season 7, episode 9 recap.

This week’s Chicago PD was a feature episode for Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), but only in a terrible way.

Wednesday’s episode “Absolution” saw Halstead kidnapped by angry drug dealers, thanks to his relationship with the widow of a victim from a previous case this season.

The rest of the Intelligence Unit once again went to extremes to recover their colleague, but the episode ended on a plot twist that just made things a whole lot worse.

Halstead gets taken

Everything seems great for Halstead at the start, as he’s throwing batting practice for a neighborhood kid. He returns Bobby to his mother Angela, who refers to Halstead as “Jim.” So what’s the deal? That’s what Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) wants to know, having followed her former partner. She’s watching him from an SUV across the street, and warns that not only does she know what he’s up to, he needs to walk away from it.

But a call from Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) truncates their conversation. A gang member’s been tortured and killed, and Superintendent Crawford wants Intelligence to get answers regarding his violent death. No sooner have they gotten there, then Halstead is asking Upton to cover for him so he can leave again. Voight notices him walking away and asks Upton about it; she responds that “Jay’s going through a few things. He’s working it out.”

So this is how Halstead gets abducted: he rolls up, alone, to Angela and Bobby’s house. When no one answers the door, he forces entry and that gets him knocked unconscious with a baseball bat. Not smart, especially for someone who ought to know better.

At the district the next day, Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) are still talking about their baby issue. As in, Ruzek is doing a lot of talking and Burgess doesn’t want to. Neither of them have heard from Halstead, and Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) has already tracked down his car. The team arrives on the scene and makes entry, but they only find Halstead’s blood on the kitchen floor.
