Chicago PD midseason finale recap: Absolution
Halstead’s rescue, but not really
Halstead tells Angela that his friend has the drugs, which makes her ask how they were located. Yep, her suspicions have been raised, to lead to the inevitable moment where she’ll find out he’s a cop. And Chicago PD fans probably won’t be shocked to know that the second meeting doesn’t go as planned.
Silva shows up almost 15 minutes late, and he hasn’t brought the hostages. Instead, he and his son try to kill Atwater, which forces the rest of Intelligence to blow their cover. Voight himself fires the shot that wounds a fleeing Silva. Upton wants to kill him, but there are witnesses, so she settles for taking him into custody instead.
Angela’s still stuck in the basement, telling Halstead about her marital problems and how she’s convinced her husband was a killer. This prompts him to tell her the full story, and she understandably turns on him. “You’ve got no right to say that you’re sorry,” she insists, before suggesting she might sell him out to the drug dealers.
Meanwhile, Voight beats up Silva, threatens to shoot him in the face, and agrees to let Upton use his other, innocent son as leverage. When that part takes too long, Upton chucks her phone into the sink, causing her ex-boyfriend Ruzek to come in and comfort her. It’s a brief beat that ends when the kid is finally brought in, so Silva can see his son, who panics at the sight of his bloodied father. That finally gets Silva to give up Halstead and Angela’s location.
In Chicago PD‘s final minutes, Intelligence descends on the building just as Halstead makes an escape attempt. He’s able to knock out one of Silva’s sons and free a nearly unconscious Angela, before getting into a fight with the other son. Upton arrives just as Jay has stabbed him. He goes back to get Angela, who decides she’s going to shoot him for getting her husband killed.
And the episode ends unresolved; will Upton or anyone else find a now even more wounded Halstead? Probably, because Jesse Lee Soffer has a contract, but we’ll see if the show pulls an Olinsky or not in the midseason premiere.
