Chicago Med recurring guest star Ian Harding has a supporting role in Ford v. Ferrari, the new film starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale.

Ian Harding may have been missing in action from the Chicago Med midseason finale, but fans can still see him on the big screen in Ford v. Ferrari.

The actor, who’s recurred as Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey DeVitto) love interest Phillip Davis since last season, seemed set to return Wednesday when Natalie learned Phillip’s daughter Sophia was in the hospital for another surgery.

However Chicago Med didn’t have Harding back; instead, Natalie’s now-ex was said to have just abandoned his daughter at the hospital and never actually appeared.

It’s not clear why the storyline turned that way, but it’s possible that Harding was busy filming his new movie. In Ford v. Ferrari, he plays one of the Ford Motor Company executives who work with Lee Iacocca (portrayed by The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal).

He’s part of the team when Ford recruits racing driver turned designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to create a race car that can beat Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That’s exactly what happened in 1966, in what’s considered one of the great moments in motorsports history.

Even if you’re not a racing fan, Ford v. Ferrari is well worth seeing; it’s getting amazing reviews at the box office, and features an impressive cast throughout. Aside from Damon, Bale, Bernthal and Ian Harding, other actors include Josh Lucas and Outlander‘s Caitriona Balfe.

Plus thanks to that plot twist, we’re not going to see Ian Harding back on Chicago Med, so this is fans’ chance to catch up with him. It’s the second week in a row that an actor from the show has been in a major movie; Brennan Brown (Dr. Sam Abrams) has an even bigger role in Midway.
