Law and Order SVU schedule for December 2019: What’s new and reruns?

When can you watch Law and Order SVU this month on NBC? Here’s when and where SVU will air in December 2019. See the Law and Order SVU schedule.

This month’s Law & Order: SVU schedule is likely to get fans of the long-running Dick Wolf series confused. Between the winter holidays and the accompanying primetime TV hijinks, viewers have a lot to take into account.

Firstly, the show isn’t making an immediate comeback after Thanksgiving. Though it wasn’t on during the holiday week, the absence wasn’t just because of Black Friday. It was because the prior episode, “Can’t Be Held Accountable,” was its midseason finale.

NBC decided to wrap many of its scripted series in the week before Turkey Day. That enabled the network to clear space for holiday programming. But, unlike many other shows, the popularity of Special Victims Unit means that it’s going to stay on the schedule over the winter hiatus. But not entirely.

In past years, the show has run uninterrupted over the break, but for this December, we’re only going to get repeats during half the month. The series will be off the air for the first two weeks, as NBC rolls out some of its Christmas programming, but then back at mid-month for a pair of reruns.

The network hasn’t announced which episodes those will be, but fans can expect they’ll be from the current season, as that’s standard operating procedure. So it’s really like a three-week break for anyone needing an Olivia Benson fix.

If you’re looking to watch more than that, there will be other reruns in syndication, but check your local listings because the schedules for those networks may also change due to holiday programs.
