Chicago Fire season 8 midseason report: Joe Cruz
What’s next
Viewers know that Cruz has a wedding to plan, and that should provide plenty of plot material. As anyone who’s watched Bridezillas knows, planning a wedding can sometimes get entirely nuts. It’s the kind of material that would make for one (or more) comedic subplots for Cruz and the rest of the supporting cast. Can you imagine Joe having to worry about a seating chart or picking out the right colors?
Then there’s the wedding itself. It’ll be a guessing game to see when Derek Haas and company decide to pull that off. That’s a big event, so do they save it for the season finale in May? And do they do an all-out wedding or do something different?

After all, the last time we watched a wedding on Chicago Fire, it was a courthouse wedding instead of a huge ceremony. There’s something to be said for making this a big party or, given the show’s history, it might end up being something that impulsively happens after some kind of accident or rescue.
Here’s some food for thought as well: could these big changes in Joe’s personal life mean that we get to see his brother Leon (Jeff Lima) again? It would make no sense for Leon not to be involved in his brother’s wedding, and last we saw him, it was neat to have him counseling Joe instead of the other way around. More of that dynamic would be great, and Joe could use his brother as he goes through all these big life events.
