What’s next

With Boden and Stella agreeing to pump the brakes on her career, plus that car accident, it’s safe to say that the second half of the season will likely see things having slowed down for her. That’s all that makes sense after she publicly demonstrated that she’s exhausted. After all, we know that the midseason premiere will pick up not long after the accident, since it ended on a cliffhanger that still has to be resolved.

Once that blows over, we’ll have to see if Chicago Fire is going to continue to pull this thread about Stella’s professional prospects or move on to something else for her. It’s possible Derek Haas and company could drop that story in favor of a new one, and that would be understandable since, as we just mentioned, there’s not much that can be done with it. But what would her next move be?

We don’t need another subplot of someone/something causing tension between Severide and Stella. We’ve seen that way too many times. The joke about Severide’s new partner thinking he’s cute wasn’t even funny because of that. But the show will probably want to do something with Stellaride, since it’s the biggest ship it has at the moment. What’s that going to be?

Stella is going to be at the forefront of Chicago Fire, because she’s the most prominent female character and one-half of its primary ship. So it’s commendable that the show is trying to find something big to do with her. But it’s going to take a little time to settle on what the best thing will be.
