What’s next
If you saw the promo for Chicago Med‘s spring premiere, you know that the first episode is going to have April confess to Choi that she kissed Marcel. That was all the promo chose to focus on! It will be a big deal, not only because of that, but because it’s no spoiler to say that Choi won’t take that infidelity well. Who would?
There are a few ways that could go, and based upon the tone that the first nine episodes have set, it’s plausible that the writers are going to choose the most dramatic option. That would be another full-on breakup between April and Choi, and her having to get Choi back. They could even do what they’ve done with Manstead, and have her hook up with Marcel for a time before something has her realize she wants to be with Choi.
However it slices up, fans know it won’t be pretty, nor should it be. The writers dug themselves this hole by creating the love triangle and now they have to get themselves out of it.
What would be much more interesting would be if they focused more on April’s professional life. We know Maggie is going through way too much with her cancer and her boyfriend’s cancer, to the point where the producers have said her being upset was more important than having her face any consequences for her recent actions. If she’s that bothered, then we should have more of April stepping in to take over Maggie’s work until she’s emotionally and physically capable again.
And what about April being there for her brother after what he’s been through? Even his being hurt didn’t give us a lot of April and Noah scenes. That relationship could be fleshed out more, too, instead of worrying about who she’ll end up with romantically.
