What’s happened so far
Of all the doctors working in the Emergency Department, Dr. Ethan Choi has definitely had Chicago Med‘s biggest workload. And that’s not counting all the happenings in his relationship, which has replaced Manstead as the show’s romantic focal point.
Professionally, Choi has dealt with some controversial cases and butted heads with other doctors as a result. There was the Army sergeant who came in for treatment while AWOL, and whom Choi got into serious trouble when he decided to call her Army doctor—over the objections of his nurse and girlfriend April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta). That episode involved a court order, a helicopter, and a lot of arguing.
Then there was the guy who was using social media to decide what he should do medically, and a rivalry that developed between Choi and new arrival Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains). While Choi disagreed with Marcel’s professional approach on one case, the situation quickly turned into a personal dilemma when Marcel was attracted to April.
Choi and April’s relationship suffered due to Choi’s over-enthusiasm about possibly having a baby, which kind of smothered April. Things came to a head in the midseason finale, when Choi decided to leave early for a random military deployment to break the tension. What he doesn’t know is that not long after he left, April decided to kiss Marcel…
