Chicago PD season 7 midseason report: Adam Ruzek

What’s next

Fans will all be wanting to know what happens to Ruzek, Burgess and their baby. Expect the show to at least make reference to that in the midseason premiere, though since the focus will be on Jay and the fallout from that story, it probably won’t get a resolution until later in the season.

Whatever happens it will have a major effect on Adam. He’s either going to be a father, or together with Kim, cope with the loss of their child. Both will be immensely sobering, and it wouldn’t be any surprise if it prompted him to make a decision about the future of his relationship. He could end up proposing again before the season concludes—that’d be the kind of big bombshell that all of the One Chicago shows love to drop in their season finales or leading up to them.

Aside from his romantic life, Ruzek will need to continue to be a stable part of Intelligence. We’ll have Jay sidelined for at least an episode while he recovers from being shot, so who’s going to be the lead detective?

And who will Ruzek partner with, anyway? Will he continue to work with Kim because that’s easier for the writers (since they’re also a couple), or could we mix it up? After all, Voight’s already broken up one partnership this season. But the choices he makes, which will undoubtedly be influenced by his personal life, will be very telling about his future in the police department. He’s committed to Intelligence unconditionally, and that could get him into more trouble—or help him get ahead too. Or both.
