Chicago Fire season 8, episode 11 recap: Where We End Up
By Kari Highman
Taking the good with the bad
Remember when Boden left Delaney in charge as opposed to Casey? Well, he had a meeting to attend, and it turned out to be one of the most important sessions in his career. At the meeting, he caught up with Captain Matt Buckley, who he instructed at the academy 10 years ago. The two agreed to catch up more later, as the meeting was about to begin.
The topic? Cancer and firefighters. Buckley had been diagnosed, and his speech was about the higher risks posed to firefighters, from the carcinogens to the diesel fuel in their rigs. He had about six months to live, he said.
After that deeply impactful speech, Boden had a lot to think about. What he took away from it was the importance of cancer awareness and the need to take required precautions.
Of course, before that could happen, a couple more things needed to be sorted out. The first thing? Who brought in the pests that made Firehouse 51 have to be fumigated. The person (accidentally) responsible for that was none other than Hermann. He profusely apologized to Stella, and she said she’d keep it to herself, but she was also going to stay at Severide’s for the time being.
The second mystery that needed to be solved? Whether or not Firehouse 20’s Captain Leone had it out for Kidd, Brett, and Foster after the women’s lounge debacle in “What Went Wrong.” Leone gave them a private room, nice food, the whole nine yards; but the girls were too afraid to enjoy any of it for fear that she was trying to “get back at them.” Oh, how wrong they were.
The episode ended on a high note, as all of Firehouse 51 and Firehouse 20 came together to cheer on Blake and Violet in the marathon. Even better? Gallo chose to run the race in his firefighting gear as a way to help raise awareness for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network cause. It was touching to see, and quite a way to end what originally was a tension-filled episode.
