Getting on the same page
Kevin went to see Jordan again, and Jordan got in his face. He said that he didn’t want Kevin to keep coming back for him. Things got heated, and Jordan ended up decking his older brother. Even after all of that, Kevin still told Jordan that he’s all he had.
Meanwhile, Jay investigated the burner phones that the offenders had, and Hailey found that the cellular guy remembered both Ben and another guy named Martin. They came in all the time, buying cigarettes, booze, and of course, the burners.
Martin was Martin Wilcomb, aka: Ben’s dad, Marty. He was also the second accomplice. When the police went to go pick him up, they found Nick beaten within an inch of his life on the floor. Nick had gone to tell Marty that the police were looking for him, and Martin didn’t like that.
Jay ran the burner phone and the car to try to track Marty down. He even went to work on getting a warrant. While they were conducting their search, Voight and Ruzek spotted Martin’s vehicle, and found him sitting in the bleachers of the park. Marty said that he didn’t mean to hurt anybody, he just wanted to protect what was theirs. He got emotional, raised the gun to shoot himself, but Upton came up behind and disarmed him.
Back at the 21st, Jay met up with Hailey and Kim. He complimented Hailey on the nice takedown of Wilcomb; while Kim talked to Trudy Platt, who gave her a “mom cop” mug. Kim asked her if she was crazy, to which Trudy replied that she should essentially go with her gut. So, Kim went back upstairs after bidding goodnight to Jay and Hailey, and talked to Voight about being pregnant. Instead of his usual grunted response, Voight smiled, and gave Kim a big hug.
In the final scene, Adam waited outside Kim’s apartment, wanting to talk after everything they had been through lately. She invited him in, and he got right to it: he proposed that they get married! Kim thought it was a really bad idea; Adam was just trying to be a good guy. Kim told him of course he’s a good guy, that’s why she loves him. They’re not meant to be together, but they’re meant to be a family. That was the one thing the two could agree on, which was what the episode ended with.
