What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago Fire? Get ready for “Then Nick Porter Happened” with our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 12 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire has Firehouse 51 on edge when a string of false alarms derails their life-saving efforts.

“Then Nick Porter Happened” sees Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker), Captain Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), and Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) try to figure out a private school’s secret; while Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) contend with personal matters.

NBC’s official episode description reads: “A series of false alarms at a private school hinders 51’s ability to respond to legitimate emergencies; Kidd asks for ideas to surprise Severide on his birthday; Cruz and Brett rent out their extra room but get more than they bargained for.”

Judging by the promotional photos released ahead of the episode, the leaders of 51 will be working tirelessly to figure out what the school administration is hiding and who is behind the series of false alarms.

Outside of work, it looks like Stella has a minor problem: she doesn’t know what in the world she’s going to do for Kelly’s birthday! The couple has been on a high since the season began, so here’s hoping the surprise that comes is a good one for them, whatever it may be.

She’s not the only one who may be surprised by their personal endeavors, as Brett and Cruz finally rent out their spare bedroom to a new tenant. While no one can replace Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov) in their hearts – nor the hearts of fans – perhaps their new roommate will be someone from 51. After all, showrunner Derek Haas did tease to TVLine last year that there would be “some new living arrangements” when Chicago Fire returned.

Who knows, maybe this week’s episode will bring members of 51 closer together, as opposed to last week’s where they were divided amongst the rivalry with Firehouse 20.

We’ll have to see where things end up when “Then Nick Porter Happened” airs tonight on NBC.
