Chicago Fire season 8, episode 13 recap: A Chicago Welcome
Finding the missing pieces
Casey asks Brett about the Larsons, and they decide to make a trip by Chicago Med for an update. Tim is in intensive care and just moments after they leave, gets the news from Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) that his wife has died while in surgery. Natalie confirms that Tim is now totally alone, so who will he turn to? Casey and Brett decide to go search for the couple’s cat, Dusty, who hasn’t been accounted for yet.
Chicago Fire then abruptly shifts to Cruz getting way too excited about a party Foster is throwing, thinking he’s going to have the best time ever, and Boden confirming that Gorsch was telling the truth about wanting to order more gear for firefighters. His contact insists that “it’ll add years to lives” if they can convince Grissom.
We never see them doing that, however; instead we find out later at Molly’s that Grissom agreed with Severide and Boden, and approved the purchase order for additional gear. So why did Gorsch tell his supplier that it was rejected? Boden’s spider-sense goes off big-time.
There’s also a random cameo in this sequence by former NFL coach Dave Wannstedt. This does, however, service Herrmann getting his revenge: he tells Mouch he’s given him something else ne to enjoy: a new schedule at Molly’s where he’s doing a lot more work.
But back to the Gorsch story. Severide and Boden want an answer, and the Assistant Deputy Commissioner has one: he cancelled the order because he found someplace that can fulfill it a lot cheaper. While they mull that, Brett tells Casey that her birth mother is looking for her, and she doesn’t know how she feels about it. Casey tells her that she can handle it, just before Dusty the cat shows up. And he’s not the only one to make a surprise appearance!
Cruz comes home and is mistaken for a delivery guy by one of Foster’s friends. And Foster isn’t any more welcoming; she wanted him out of the apartment while she and her buddies are turning it into an EDM club. It’s a good idea that Chicago Fire circles back to Brett and Casey reuniting Tim with his beloved cat. He implies there won’t be anyone at Gail’s funeral, and longtime Chicago Fire fans can guess what that means.
