Will

Will is still putting in hours at the safe injection site, but it’s starting to cause issues with his work at Chicago Med. He’s almost late for his next shift at the hospital because he’s still working there. But he probably wishes he’d taken this episode off.

His patient of the week is a woman named Chloe who’s trying to have a baby, but also happens to have a fibroid. He tells her that it may not be a big deal and to stop Googling things, which is good advice for everyone. He calls for a consult, which is how Will is reunited with Dr. Hannah Asher (guest star Jessy Schram).

She immediately asserts herself, wanting to do surgery and convincing Chloe and her husband that it’s worth the risk. What they don’t know is Hannah’s drug problem, which Will confronts her on. Hannah tries to twist the argument back on him, and insists that she’s fine. Because of course she’s fine. Everyone is always fine.

Since he can’t stop the surgery, Will hovers outside of the operating room and has one of the nurses check in not once but three different times. This leads Hannah to confront him after a successful surgery; he tells her he’s not going away until she gets treatment, which leads to her saying she’ll turn him in, too. What is it with this hospital employing some messed-up people?

Marcel

Marcel flies solo to treat Lucy after a terrible car accident. “It took us 20 minutes to extricate her,” one of the paramedics tells him when bringing her into the ED. A quick look tells our newest doctor that he needs to take his patient directly to the hybrid OR.

Once inside, he thinks it’s an easy surgery but then quickly becomes well and truly stumped. Lucy won’t stop bleeding. First Marcel finds a hematoma and thinks it’s her pelvis, but fixing that problem doesn’t stop the bleed, and she dies a few moments later without him ever uncovering where the blood was actually coming from.

Marcel kicks everyone out of the hybrid OR and continues to stare at the corpse, trying to figure out what went wrong. He refuses to come out until he can explain his mistake to Lucy’s parents. Finally, he uncovers it: another hole, and this one has a bullet inside of it. Lucy was not just in a car accident; she was shot by a completely random bullet.

Natalie appears at the end of this Chicago Med episode to ask Marcel how he’s doing. He doesn’t offer much, but it’s nice of her to ask. And it’s nice to once again see a vulnerable side of Marcel.
