Chicago PD season 7, episode 13 recap: I Was Here
By Kari Highman
A shocking ending
At Chicago Med, Voight, Burgess, and Upton finally got the brunette from George’s house to talk. Natalie was one of the ring’s more senior participants, and the rest of the women were scared of her. She was initially hesitant to speak to Chicago PD, but caved once she knew she wasn’t going to get out of this otherwise.
The one thing Intelligence needed to know was the identity of the girl who made that first 911 call to Burgess. Kim and Voight pressed Natalie to think, and she eventually declared that this whole situation “was Baby’s fault” and affirmed that the mystery woman was still with Daniel Lopez. As in, still in danger.
Voight pressed Natalie to tell them where Daniel “broke down” the troublesome girls, as that was almost certainly where he was now. Eventually, after more interviewing, it was identified as a local motel so the entire team started searching every motel in the area. In true Chicago PD fashion, though, it was Kim Burgess who ended up catching the final break.
Another dispatcher phoned her to say that George Weller’s phone had called 911 again. The mystery caller? Her name was Emma, and Burgess jumped on the line to try and reassure her while also notifying the rest of Intelligence and the police department where they were and trying to get there as fast as possible. Kudos for multi-tasking, Kim!
Burgess arrived at the motel but was without backup, as Intelligence was still several minutes out and no Chicago PD units had arrived either. When Kim heard terrified screaming from inside one of the motel rooms, she knew there was no more time to waste and made an incredible decision to go in to save Emma, even though it put her own life in danger.
Lopez and Burgess had a full-on brawl that stands as one of Chicago PD’s toughest fight scenes. The pimp dealt several harsh blows to Kim, leaving her bloodied and in obvious pain, but she was ultimately able to get her gun again and put a bullet into his abdomen. Burgess then went to help Emma, just as Intelligence finally arrived to assist both of them and take them to the hospital.
While Halstead talked to Emma and tried to get in contact with her family, a doctor told Burgess what fans had probably already figured out: she had suffered a miscarriage due to the beating she had just taken. A numb Kim stared out the window while he talked, before Ruzek arrived and did his best to comfort her. But her mind was clearly a mile away, and Chicago PD just crushed the dreams of Burzek fans everywhere.
