Chicago PD season 7, episode 13 takeaways: I Was Here
2. The gaffes you might have missed
The scene: There were two small but obvious mistakes in this Chicago PD episode. Early on, when Burgess looks at her screen in the 911 dispatch center, the word “premises” is misspelled. Instead it says “premeses.” And in the fourth act, when the other dispatcher patches her through to Emma, he calls her “Detective.” Kim is not a detective (yet); she’s still an officer.
The takeaways: These were some unusually sloppy mistakes from the show. Particularly the one about Burgess’s rank—you’d think someone would have caught the error. There’s been some sort of confusion for a while, since several members of Intelligence are detectives (like Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton). But several others are still offers (i.e. Burgess, Adam Ruzek, and Kevin Atwater). Remember the deleted scene last season where they were talking about the detective’s exam?
The easy solution, of course, is to promote at least one of the lower-ranked characters. It would be ridiculous if everybody made detective, but now that we’re seven seasons in, somebody should be in line for a bump by now. The most likely would be Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), since he’s shown his ability to not only stay out of trouble but also how much experience he’s gained over the years. Burgess is on her way up, too, but episodes like this show how she still can make some impulsive choices and bend the rules. She was totally right in doing so, but would the department look down on her for that?
Rick Eid has teased the idea that someone may be promoted to Detective this season. However, he’s also said it may not happen. So take that with a grain of salt.
