Chicago PD star LaRoyce Hawkins will represent the One Chicago franchise when he plays in the 2020 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

One Chicago will meet the NBA next week when LaRoyce Hawkins participates in this year’s NBA Celebrity Game.

The Chicago PD star, a fan favorite for portraying Officer Kevin Atwater, was one of the celebrities announced on Thursday. With the All-Star Game being played at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena, there’s a strong Chicago element in this year’s celebrity showdown.

Hawkins—born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Harvey—is playing for the team coached by ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith. His teammates include Chance the Rapper and comedian Lil Rel Howery.

Michael Wilbon, another ESPN personality who is also from Chicago, will coach the opposing team that includes Common, Kane Brown and Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste.

One Chicago fans who want to watch and cheer for LaRoyce can see the NBA Celebrity Game on ESPN, starting at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT and 4 p.m. PT). You can also stream ESPN online here, but it’s not known yet if they’ll include the game on their streaming feed.

This is a really fun opportunity not only for LaRoyce Hawkins, but for the entire One Chicago fandom. It’s always great to see one of our cast or crew members pop up somewhere else, and not only that, but it’s happening in Chicago. Even if you don’t watch basketball, having this huge NBA event there is a big deal, and one of Chicago PD‘s best is a part of it.

Plus, more exposure for One Chicago is always welcomed, especially when millions of basketball fans will be tuned into the NBA Celebrity Game.

LaRoyce Hawkins’ big news comes after Chicago Med regular Oliver Platt narrated the opening film for NBC’s coverage of the Indianapolis 500 last May. Taylor Kinney also played in the MLB’s celebrity softball game in 2018 in Washington, D.C; he batted leadoff for the American League in that game, which you can check out here:
