Chicago PD season 7, episode 14 preview: Center Mass

Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD finds one of Intelligence’s own at the center an intriguing case which seems to put a focus on mental health, while the rest of the team searches for a fugitive that’s evaded police before.

“Center Mass” puts the newest member of Intelligence in the spotlight, as Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) takes the lead on a case. While this isn’t the first character-centric episode she’s been given, it is the first time fans will see Vanessa at the helm of an investigation.

While Rojas takes charge, the rest of Sergeant Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) unit will be on the hunt for a criminal who has managed to escape their grasp in the past. Since the cases that the 21st deal with are often connected, perhaps these two suspects will be interwoven.

The young man who Vanessa interacts with is unwell, which leads to a pretty intense standoff according to NBC’s promo. It’s interesting that she’s the one who keeps ending up in these gun fights, because in “Assets,” she fired at a criminal through a car window. It’s also worth noting that in the following episode, she threatened to shoot a suspect she and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) were in pursuit of.

This will mark Vanessa’s third standoff or shootout since her introduction. For the fresh face of Intelligence to be caught up in so many tense moments, really says something about her character development. As we’ve come to learn, Vanessa handles herself with confidence in almost every situation she’s in, so we’re betting the same will be said for this episode’s end result.
