Chicago Fire season 8, episode 14 recap: Shut It Down
What really happened
A lot of time later, Mouch finally seems to have learned everything that Ritter can teach him…but that’s because Ritter discovers he’s got a cheat sheet. The attempt at taking it away from him is interrupted by the latest gas explosion. This time, it’s outside of a grocery store with people trapped inside on the wrong end of a fiery moat that used to be a gas main. Our team creates a temporary bridge, while Severide and Cruz work to shut off the gas. And look, Casey’s life gets threatened again!
In true TV fashion, Severide kills the gas at the last second, enabling Casey to safely return to the proper side and the rest of Firehouse 51 to put out the fire. The next day, the gas company CEO appears in Boden’s office and tells everybody that this whole epidemic is down to one faulty sensor. Casey walks off with the bottle of alcohol she brought as a gift, because clearly he needs a drink after this episode.
But Chicago Fire ends on a different note, with Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) realizing that he’d just been worried about getting a new registration. There wasn’t any inspection. Everything Mouch and Ritter have spent the hour doing was for no reason. Whoops. At Molly’s, Mouch gets back at Herrmann by taking cash out of the register for “overtime.”
Yet where’s Gallo? He’s back at Chicago Med to talk with Will. Dr. Halstead tells him he doesn’t have to keep visiting, but Blake doesn’t care. And he gets a little nod of approval from Will as he walks toward Lucy’s room.
And where’s Brett? Yep, she’s changed her mind about that letter, and she’s interrupting Casey’s night to get it back. Luckily, he went and dug it out of the trash can, so she finally opens it. But she insists that he stay while she does. Turns out it has no grand words, just her mother’s name and address. So who’s up for a road trip?
