Chicago PD season 7, episode 14 recap: Center Mass

A chaotic chase

Ruzek and Voight went to check out the coffeehouse, which provided Chicago PD a moment for Voight to ask how Burgess was doing. Ruzek said Kim was fine, but when Voight asked how he was doing, he said he didn’t really know. He still needed time to process not having a child, as he’d barely processed having one.

But it wasn’t long before patrol had spotted Eduardo’s vehicle, and the duo were hot on his trail. An armed Roberto attempted to get away, but Ruzek faked him out with wrong directions, leading him to walk right into a bullet from Voight. While Eduardo survived, he wouldn’t be escaping again.

While they finished up at the scene, a worried Vanessa told Voight that Sammy took off from the hospital. He’d also turned off the cell phone she had given him when she visited. Voight gave her permission to go find him, and sent Upton to go with her.

Sammy had gone back to the old church and gotten a gun, then ended up at a local book depository. Once again, Vanessa attempted to talk him down, but Sammy heard police sirens and after firing off a few rounds into the ceiling, took off running. This left Rojas to pursue him into a nearby convenience store.

Rojas had pretty much cleared the store, except for one man and his daughter, who emerged and caused Sammy to panic again. Out of fear that he would harm them, Rojas shot Sammy in the chest, but immediately began trying to keep him alive. Vanessa kept pressure on the wound, while Hailey called for an ambulance.

Some time later, Hailey relayed the good news to Vanessa that Sammy had stabilized at the hospital. He wasn’t awake yet, but Vanessa went to sit with him anyway. She even brought him a book to read when he woke up.

The last scene of this week’s Chicago PD involved Burgess arriving at Voight’s office, where he laid out the details of an undercover assignment. She appreciated his offer, but she knew what he was trying to do, and didn’t take the job. Voight informed Kim that she could come back whenever she was ready. But was Burgess really okay? Was Rojas? One Chicago fans will have to decide that for themselves.
