4. April Sexton and Ethan Choi, Chicago Med

Fans of Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) have been through a lot during Chicago Med season 5—and it’s just past the halfway point! The couple known as Chexton got engaged this season. That is exciting news, and would be more exciting if it weren’t for April’s indiscretion with newcomer Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains).

We weren’t necessarily surprised by that; we wouldn’t expect anything less in the One Chicago universe, as there always seems to be some kind of a curveball thrown into a majority of the franchise’s romantic relationships (particularly on Med, which has had its fair share of romantic rivalries).

It’s just unfortunate that the writers went this route, because April and Ethan had a long road to get to where they are now. Their relationship developed nicely over last season, and they began on solid ground going into Chicago Med season 5. But this alleged love triangle shouldn’t negate all of their progress over the season’s14 episodes.

At the start of the season, April and Ethan were happily in sync, both at work and at home. They were unpacking boxes as they moved in together; they were even able to work alongside each other in the ED during tricky consults.

And Ethan has been the absolute best boyfriend to April, as he’s always been there for her, especially when she needed him most. When April found out it would be difficult for her to get pregnant, Ethan was supportive of her in this trying time. He even agreed with her idea to try IVF in “The Ground Shifts Beneath Us.”

These two show that no matter what kinds of lives you lead individually, things always seem to work out when you come together. It seems like regardless of what they deal with on the job, April and Ethan are able to leave that behind and enjoy being with one another. Let’s hope for their sake that April’s kiss with Crockett doesn’t come back to haunt them.
