2. Joe Cruz and Chloe Allen, Chicago Fire

Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Chloe Allen (recurring guest star Kristen Gutoskie) have made major strides in their relationship. In the One Chicago “Infection” crossover, we saw Cruz planning to propose to Chloe. While she did sadly break up with him before he had the chance to ask her, things quickly turned around for the couple after Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) talked to Chloe.

It turned out that she was worried about marrying a firefighter due to the risks of the job. Brett reassured her that Joe loves her so much, and that he’d do anything to make her happy. With her mind made up, Chloe surprised Joe by showing up at his door in “Buckle Up” and spelled out in cake pops the phrase “Ask me.” So he did, and now they’re engaged!

For those that don’t know or remember: the cake pops were a nod back to when they first met, when Joe saved Chloe from a fire in the Chicago Fire season 7 episode “Going to War.” The next day, she dropped by the firehouse with cake pops as a thank you to him. Guess things have now come full-circle for the couple.

While Cruz and Chloe haven’t set a date for the wedding—at least one hasn’t been mentioned on-screen—One Chicago viewers did see Joe ask his lieutenant, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), to be his best man. Severide accepted the offer, knowing he’d be filling some special shoes; Joe’s best friend, Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov) would’ve most likely been the go-to, except he was killed in the Chicago Fire season 8 premiere.

So what’s next for these two lovebirds? Showrunner Derek Haas recently teased to TV Guide that their wedding will happen before this season of Chicago Fire comes to a close, and it will be done differently than they’ve done weddings in the past, such as Chief Wallace Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) wedding to Donna or the Dawsey courthouse wedding.

Joe and Chloe are an example of a lasting relationship that, despite having a little bit of wedding jitters, has been able to make that leap of faith and now they’re going to spend the rest of their lives together. Here’s hoping they get their happy ending this season.
