The next Chicago Fire is the first part of a two-show crossover, and NBC has released an official description as well as a promo for the big event.
Wednesday’s installment is entitled “Off the Grid,” and sets up a joint storyline with Chicago PD that centers on Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). In true Severide fashion, our hero goes above and beyond the call of duty to get to the truth—this time investigating suspicious overdoses around the city.
His investigation leads him to cross paths with former Chicago PD series regular Sean Roman (the returning Brian Geraghty), and the two form a team to get to the bottom of this drug crisis. But, as this is a crossover that has to stretch over two hours, you know that there’s going to be some sort of big reveal that will keep the mystery going! So how far down the rabbit hole will these two wind up digging?
Plus, the ongoing story about Sylvie Brett’s (Kara Killmer) birth mother continues in this episode, for those of you who are Brett and Casey shippers. Will we have time in the crossover event to get any kind of resolution there? Do we need it when there’s obviously some kind of big emergency going on? It feels like Brett would be too busy helping people to make time for her mom, but we’ll have to watch and see.

"A series of teen opioid overdoses sees Severide partner with Sean Roman, but [he] begins to suspect there’s more to the story than his old friend is telling him. Casey tries to be there for Brett as she considers her birth mother’s offer to meet."
