NBC has released the official photos for the next Chicago PD, showing an old friend returning to his stomping grounds for a personal case. Brian Geraghty, who portrayed Sean Roman for two seasons, will reprise his role in the episode.

Roman will reunite with his former patrol partner, Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), and appears to interact with members of Firehouse 51, as “Burden of Truth” marks the second part of the crossover with Chicago Fire.

While Kim and Sean work the mysterious case from the outside, the rest of Sergeant Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) Intelligence Unit will work the case from the inside, as one of the promotional photos shows the majority of the team computing in the bullpen.

While we don’t know much about the case that brings Roman back to the 21st district, it has to be something pretty important for him to call upon his old colleagues. Die-hard fans will remember that Roman is no longer a police officer, as towards the end of Chicago PD season 3, he suffered an injury that ended his days as a patrol cop.

Roman moved to San Diego rather than take a desk job. Now that he will be back in that world, will it make things harder for him? Even though he’s dressed to the nines in one photo, he’s seen better days in others.

And the photos of Roman and Burgess prompt the question of how awkward it is for them to be working together again, as they weren’t just partners; they were romantically involved when he left town.

Burgess is in almost all of the limited Chicago PD photos made available for “Burden of Truth,” so the implication is that this is a Kim-heavy episode. And that would make sense, since Burgess had the closest relationship with the returning Roman. Will this episode throw her another curveball in what’s already been a rough season?
