Finding Sarah

Burgess turns down Ruzek’s offer to ride with her but doesn’t tell him why. “Your unit seems to be walking on eggshells around you,” Roman informs her, “especially Ruzek.” Kim deflects by saying he seems different too, and the two go to Logan’s last known address. The girl there claims that she saw Sarah at “the old lake house” and they get an address.

So it’s time for a Chicago PD road trip, this time into the middle of snowy nowhere. Roman takes in the door of the house and Burgess has to hold him back twice so she can clear the place first. While they’re searching, he keeps asking about her, so she casually throws out “Ruzek and I got back together, I got pregnant, I’m not anymore.” Smooth, Kim. Needless to say, Roman is thrown by this information.

But he does find one of the pills left on the table with the Southside Hustlers logo on the bag. And then he sees his sister’s jacket discarded in the backyard. So in the bleak world of Chicago PD, you know what’s coming: Burgess spots something in the distance, and it’s revealed to be the frozen body of Sarah Roman.

After Severide has to literally cut Sarah’s corpse out of the ice, we get a voice-over from the coroner that tells us Sarah had been beaten and strangled before she died a week ago. But she didn’t actually die until she froze to death.

This is way too much information, especially for Roman. Burgess goes with him when he tells his parents about Sarah. The reaction is bizarre: Roman’s dad viciously slaps him, telling him that “She needed you. We needed you!” Burgess hauls him off and Roman awkwardly watches his parents sob.

Intelligence is able to identify Logan as Sarah’s killer from forensics, but they’re no closer to finding him or who he gets his drugs from. But Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) comes in with a possible location. Unfortunately, shots are fired inside the warehouse before they can even get there, and Ruzek finds Logan’s dead body. Well, Chicago PD just made things a lot more complicated.

Our heroes search the rest of the warehouse, and find a possible suspect, but he’s already foaming at the mouth from another overdose by the time Burgess tackles him. Chicago Fire’s Brett and Foster arrive on scene and administer Narcan that saves him. Burgess quickly bags his hands to preserve any evidence as they rush him off to the hospital.
