Crockett and Natalie

Why is everyone gossiping about Dr. Crockett Marcel like a bunch of teenage girls? The immaturity from the nursing staff is ridiculous, including April, who has a look on her face somewhere between mopey and annoyed. Luckily Maggie puts everyone in their place, while Crockett runs outside to get his badge out of his car—again.

In the parking lot he walks into Dr. Natalie Manning, and the two of them are approached by a man who begs them to help his pregnant wife. But this sob story is fake; when they follow Jim Clemons he pulls a gun on them, and so does his wounded brother Tyler in the van. If the guy playing Tyler looks familiar, he’s former CSI: NY star Carmine Giovinazzo.

Jim orders Crockett and Natalie into the back of the van to help his brother. Natalie begs him to at least get them supplies, and they agree to stop into a local gas station. When they arrive, Crockett tries to do the gentlemanly thing and be the one to go outside, but they decide to take Natalie instead and have her handcuff Crockett to the inside of the van before they leave. So instead Crockett watches the wounded guy pass out and tries to get hold of his gun. This does not work at all, since he’s handcuffed.

Natalie and Jim return, with Natalie able to get the patient back to consciousness. He eventually lets Crockett out of the handcuffs so they can perform their improv surgery, which includes cauterizing Tyler’s wound with a camping blowtorch. Once they’re done, Jim wants to shoot them both, but Tyler insists that the duo are his “insurance policy.” So instead, he takes them to his mother’s house.

After a quick hug with Mom, she mentions someone “in the living room,” which turns out to be his son Bobby, who has terminal brain cancer. Rather than let Natalie and Crockett even try to help his bedridden son, Tyler brings out the handcuffs again.

Eventually, Chicago Med has Jay Halstead and the cops show up to the house, after Goodwin has found an address. A desperate Tyler allows Natalie to leave, but keeps Crockett as a hostage. Natalie hears a single gunshot and assumes the worst. She’s sobbing like this is her new best friend or something. But Crockett emerges; he’s fine and Tyler is finally off to the ED. “That man owes you his life,” Jay says.
