Choi and Marcel

Choi and April arrive at work hand-in-hand, but April does not look happy as soon as Choi isn’t paying attention. She runs immediately to the bathroom and throws up, which we did not necessarily need to see on camera. But she returns in time to assign Choi and Marcel to a wounded cop who put himself in the line of fire to save a girl. This does mean we get a cameo from Chicago PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton).

Choi and Marcel go immediately into the operating room, where they discover that the cop must have been shot before, despite the fact that it’s not in his medical history. Marcel wants to leave the discrepancy alone, and Choi rushes off when one of the nurses informs him about April’s condition. He comes back to question the officer about his medical history and the piece of car seat foam that they found in his abdomen. Choi knows that he was shot while sitting in a car.

Officer Bell denies any such thing, though. Choi tries to appeal to him by using his own military background, and that doesn’t work either. This case kind of gets tossed aside in order to give us the scene where Choi tries to fight Marcel, but in the final ten minutes, Chicago Med does get back to it. Bell finally confesses: he was shot as a teenager when he and a friend tried to rob a liquor store. The friend died, and that incident led him to turn his life around and become a cop.

He agrees to self-report the previous shooting, even if it could put his career at risk. Afterward, Goodwin confronts Choi about the almost-fight and he takes total responsibility for it. But instead of disciplining him, she tells him she understands his desire for a family and not to be too hard on himself. And the whole hospital has now found out about April and Marcel, because Natalie thinks that the wedding is a good time to make a snarky comment to Marcel about it.
