Which One Chicago series had the best 100th episode?
Chicago Fire
The episode: “One Hundred” (season 5, episode 8)
Why it’s ranked No. 1: Chicago Fire did a brilliant job of telling a great season 5 story while also telling a story that looked back on everything that had gotten the show to that point. Derek Haas and company served up everything that One Chicago fans could have possibly asked for, both in terms of plot and emotional payoff.
“One Hundred” gave us the return of fan favorite Jeff Hephner, in his first appearance on Chicago Fire in several seasons, and that wound up being the start of the storyline between Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Anna Turner (recurring guest star Charlotte Sullivan). We also got to see the equally beloved Jon Seda, as the show got to a moment that many viewers had been waiting for, for years: the wedding between Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund).
But the best scene came from the subplot, in which the group wanted to throw a huge party at Molly’s to celebrate the bar’s 100th anniversary. The story was clearly meant to be a parallel to celebrating the show’s success, and it was written so well that the audience felt like they were invited to the special occasion. David Eigenberg delivered an excellent monologue that summed up everything that the characters and fans were feeling.
Reaching 100 episodes isn’t just about doing something big; ideally, it’s about doing something that pays homage to everything that got the series to that point, and “One Hundred” was able to do that while also moving the season forward, too. It was an excellent episode that’s still one of the best hours in Chicago Fire history.
