Chicago Fire season 8, episode 18 recap: I’ll Cover You
Julie goes into labor
Cut to Seager, Severide and Chicago PD‘s Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) questioning the arson victim’s boss. “This could be all my fault,” the man says, admitting that he had asked the dead man to keep an eye on a troublesome colleague with a past drug addiction. The guy happens to be maybe ten feet away and takes off running. And on his way out of the parking garage, he tries to hit Severide and Seager with his car. Kelly eventually stops him with a dumpster, so Ruzek can arrest him.
Chicago Fire‘s final ten minutes involve Julie going into labor at Chicago Med. But before he can get to the hospital to help Brett, Casey meets the Reddit poster, who is the friend of the kid from that prior call. It turns out that he wants to thank the firefighter who saved his buddy, but he has them confused: he’s looking for the other dude who made fun of Casey earlier, not Casey.
Seager, now with her arm in a sling, meets back up with Stella…and the captain overseeing their program. Luckily, Kylie has come through and brought all her buddies along, so he has nothing to complain about. And the episode comes to a close with Brett finding out that Julie has had a “minor” complication, so who does she text? Casey, of course, who leaves the awkward conversation he’s having with Mouch (Christian Stolte) at Molly’s to be by her side.
After Boden tells Severide it’s case closed on the Milwaukee murder, Casey arrives at the hospital just before Brett finds out that Julie died in the middle of an emergency C-section. “She’s my mother,” Brett chokes out when the doctor asks. At least the baby survived, and Casey encourages Brett to go see her half-sister. A tearful Brett holds the baby while breaking down over her loss.
